There is a new application that you can download on facebook. It is called market lodge. The whole idea for this new application is that consumers are more likely to buy products and merchandise from friends and family, rather than something seen on TV or sold in the stores. Facebook members who sell merchandise through this program will recieve 10 percent of the sales made because of their recommendations. Market lodge hopes to get into the middle of the social network by paying facebook members to sell, sell. sell. There are over 67 million users on facebook as of 2008 and Market Lodge is hopeful that because members can benefit and make money while being online and chatting with friends. Even if a facebook member purchases items for themselves they can save money by using market lodge. Facebookers set a personal store on facebook and display the products they know and love. They then invite friends to join the network to show off the products they recommend. This is how they begin to make that 10 percent. I think this is a bit over the top, but it is a smart idea. Facebook used to have a application called Beacon, which was similar to Market lodge, but the members did not benefit (they did not make any money on the sales). I think alot of facebook members will try this program out and many will benefit from it. I will however, not partake in this new way to make money online.

I think that facebook is taking this application thing way too far. Yes, this sounds like a smart idea, but just as soon as this starts getting popular something bigger will come out from facebook. And who gets the other 90% of the sales? I might be confused on this, but it sounds like a way for facebook to make more money. Also, what happened to facebook not having random applications made everyday? I don’t go a day without atleast 3 requests to become a pirate. haha
